Only the far northern part of Atalanta was part of the Arrowhead Confederacy, the loose association of nations that dominated sGeorgia after the fall of Athens, though the confederacys roots go back still further. The southern regions of Atalanta, known the Dirt Fulton, have historically been considered out of it.
Atalanta was once thought to be named for a firecely fast forest sprite who incurred the jealously of the gods and was brought to earth in this area because it had been devoid of life or vegetation—the so called Adalanta Desert. (It is the first known occurence of these deities west of Athens.)
Serious inhabitation only began with the building of the great Tehachapi sphaltways that crossed in the center.
