The primary two industries of this community were a) the selling of windbreak and bisonbreak trees to farmers and others throughout the western Mississippi River valley and b) the sale of velvens (their legendary benches) to wetland areas around the nDakatoskal district. The reputation for quality and craftsmanship was so high that velvens became a form of currency, because the previous common unit: coal impregnated with silver became increasingly unwieldy and unpleasant.
Alymer city was one of the most beautiful towns around, with beams that plummeted into the ground at various angles—believed to channel the energy of the Earth in way that improves vision (a motif reflected in their benches as well).
