Definition

Though this term can be used to describe accelerating Tehachapi music in general, it originally referred to music created over a long (often dozens of miles) stretch of roadway that required painstaking installation of pieces of stone (or grooves being carved) that brought a subtle but rich change in sound when played.

In A Sentence

With those near Tehachapi Tor subtly and progressively smaller than the ones by your feet, it produced an achingly beautiful and resonant sound called “The Engineer’s Crescendo.”
