It must be said that this culturally Parisian gwome today is best known for primarily two things: an archaic unit of measurement (the toise) and the quack remedy known as Ozomulsion. It had its roots in a strange liqueur made from fermented birds which, in skilled hands, did have some medicinal effects. However, it was so distasteful to most, that unscrupulous conmen began just adding pure alcohol to neutralize the taste and soon it was more lethal than helpful.
