The Caliphate of Granada seized control of Alhambra from the Suzerain of Lamar.  This area was settled by seekers of the great Caliph for whom pCalifornia was named. Most were Muslims, armed only with their recollections of the great Alhambra in their homeland.  It took them 150 years to build the great fortress.  By the time it was completed, they were incapable of viewing the world in any other way.

As a result, the Alhmabra is a physical structure as well as a metaphor for the entire gwome.  It can be confusing to speak with locals here because they cannot distinguish between the reality of the building and the reality of the landscape.  Every valley is a metaphor for a gutter of the building, each plain a symbol for the floor of a room.
