Eames Demetrios is the Geographer-at-Large for Kcymaerxthaere.
He is a storyteller who has been considering this parallel world for at least 20 years, initially through certain writings of his as well as an attempt to understand certain photos he took over the years--particularly, but not exclusively, a series of textural images he conjured up again and again. These images revealed themselves to be closely akin to the texture flags of various gwomes (a cognate word meaning "footprint of the nation," like a country or culture of Kcymaerxthaere). After a while of living with these ideas, he had a strong desire to tell these stories not simply through the printed page, but also through experiences in the landscape. And, after another while, he realized that, so long as he had permission, no one was stopping him.
Therefore, what you see here on this site did not really take shape until 2003, when, in linear Athens, Georgia, he installed his first plaque honoring the events of the parallel world in our linear world. In 2004, 5 were installed (including the Krblin Jihn Kabin, the first Kcymaerxthaere Historical Site); in 2005, it was 7; 2006, it was 11--more and more each year until now there are more than 80 in 13 linear countries. He particularly enjoys crafting the Historical Sites which offer another extension of rich experience.
Demetrios has said that he feels that the project helps people see the world fresh. He especially likes how it uses language to create visual ambiguity in the mind of the audience. But above all, he loves how it tells a story and conjures up a parallel world in a compelling way. He encourages visitors to this site to "see at least one plaque in person if you possibly can. The human mind loves context. So when you do, it changes how you perceive the images on the site in a strangely visceral way (and please post some pix).
Most consider Demetrios the author of Kcymaerxthaere, though its denizens are not so sure. He wears other hats as well, being quite involved with filmmaking, writing, scale, design education and design stewardship.
If you would like to support the project, please consider buying some of our products or even supporting an entire installation.
