Kcymaerxthaere

a global work of three dimensional storytelling

FAQS

Should I read these FAQs?

Sure, if it helps you get oriented .

But, do they ruin the fun?

What fun?

You know, exploring an alternative world?

Oh.  Well, ask away—we figure if you are reading them, you need them, so they’ll probably be a help

Well, what is Kcymaerxthaere?

It’s an alternative world largely consistent with our linear world

So it is basically kind of like Second Life?

Yeah, and isn’t Moby Dick the same as the Yellow Pages?  They are both just bound stacks of paper.

Who is asking the questions here?

Sorry.  You are.

Thank you.  So—Second Life?

So—-no.  For starters you can visit many of these sites—all of them as far as we know.

But did these things really happen?

They are all true in Kcymaerxthaere

Okay.

Where does that name come from?

Kcymaara is a cognate word meaning the physicality of the planet.  And an xthaere is a shape or form that exists in almost an infinity of dimensions—to be precise it exists in infinity minus 29 dimensions (though some gwomes have belief systems that suggest is infinity minus 29 to the 29, or 29 to the 29—29 times.

Do I have to remember all this stuff?

Well, we find that as people experience Kcymaerxthaere they remember the stuff that helps them most.  It all kind of builds.

So didn’t you used to call this Kymaerica?

We did, but as our research progressed we realized that although some people refer to the whole universe that way, it technically refers to only 4 of the 29 rezhns.  Hey, we are learning every day.  It is kind of like referring to the United Kingdom as England.  You can do it, but you are not making as many friends as you might.

Hmmm.  Well, how do you choose the sites?

It is where the things happened in the alternative world.  But I need to get permission of the land owner, because the markers and sites are intended to be there permanently (whatever that precisely means).

Well, what world are we in now?

Well, most of us are in the linear world.

Well, do people in Kcymaerxthaere know about us?

Well, they visit us about as often we visit them, which is to say rarely, but I think in general they are more attuned to the possibility of us.  Having said that, there are only a few gwomes who for whom belief in what we call the linear world is essential to their belief system.  For example, there are those who believe that the number of stars in the Milky Way galaxy is linked to the number of islands in certain archipelagoes (depends on the gwome) in our linear world.  So they believe global warming may destroy whole star systems.

Do I have to go to all the sites?

No, but if you go to at least one, we really think you will get a lot more out of the project and certainly this site.

Who pays for it?

The Geographer-at-Large has had a number of exhibitions where digital prints and even editions of the plaques have been sold.  We also sell books and the like.  But money is always tight.

How can I help?

By telling a friend and taking them to visit some of the places But also consider making a donation to the project.  If you try our new Kcyontribute site, you can get your initials or name scratched on the side of a Kcymaerxthaere Historic Marker.

Also, if you know of a cool place to install a site and you can get us permission, we will start doing the research.  No promises, but some of our sites have happened that way.

And, of course, you can order some of our products.

But, most of all, telling people is the most important thing.  Not only because we are pursuing sponsors who will not harm local businesses, but celebrate the vision of the project.  Telling people is most important because Kcymaerxthaere is a beautiful, fun thing to experience.  And when more people are passionate about it, good things happen.

Anything else?

Well, it is a young project, so we need the help.  Another thing I just thought of: if you know a group that might invite the Geographer-at-Large to speak about the project, let us know.

Visit a site if you can.  When you are there, be respectful there and careful.  Bring a friend and take a picture when you are there and then put it on Flickr or send us a copy or both.

Thanks!
